Coin watches have long been a fascinating yet niche presence in the world of horology. Their origins stem from watch brands striving to showcase their craftsmanship and technical prowess. Placing a movement inside a thin coin was no easy feat, and early designs often involved joining two coins together to create enough space for the movement.
It wasn't until the 1957 Basel Watch Fair that Piaget introduced its 9P movement, applying it to its coin watches for the first time. Using a single coin, Piaget ingeniously split it in half and hollowed it out, integrating a spring mechanism along the coin's edge to open the cover, revealing an ultra-thin movement hidden inside. Even by today's standards, this remains a masterpiece of the late 1960s.
Today, we are sharing a well-preserved 18K Piaget coin watch with a 27mm case diameter. The coin's edge lines are sharp, and the lugs remain original and unpolished. The watch features the 1881 $10 Liberty Head coin on the front and an American eagle on the back. The dial is in pristine condition, and the movement functions normally, though servicing is recommended.
Complete with its original Piaget buckle and strap, this watch is in collector-grade condition. Available immediately in our workshop, a rare opportunity not to be missed!
