When browsing Breguet’s current product catalogue, one quickly notices how rare it has become to find Classique models under 36mm in diameter. As most sub-36mm Classique watches were discontinued or upsized during the 2010s, one long-standing reference continued to hold its ground in what can only be described as a “last stand” for classical proportions — the Breguet Classique Ref. 5907.
Designing a small-seconds dial is an exacting exercise in proportion. The distance between the central pinion and the subsidiary seconds directly determines the visual balance of the entire watch. In this regard, 34mm represents an almost perfect diameter. Its successor, enlarged in size, lost much of the refinement and elegance that defined the original.
Introduced in 2010, the Ref. 5907 preserves nearly all of Breguet’s classical design codes: the coin-edge caseband, blued Breguet hands, and an exquisitely crafted guilloché dial. The dial construction is particularly complex — the outer chapter ring, hour markers, minute track, and nameplate feature circular brushing, while the central dial is hand-guillochéd. Notably, the guilloché patterns differ between the main dial and the subsidiary seconds, creating a layered, three-dimensional effect. Twelve applied gold hour markers serve as the finishing touch. The level of craftsmanship involved fully justifies the “SWISS GUILLOCHÉ MAIN” inscription above 6 o’clock. At 12 o’clock, the traditional Breguet signature — originally intended as an anti-counterfeiting measure — remains a detail cherished by collectors today.
Powering the watch is the beautifully finished Breguet Cal. 511DR manual-winding movement, based on the Frédéric Piguet Cal. 1150 ebauche. It features twin barrels delivering an impressive 95-hour power reserve. The power-reserve indicator is displayed via a blued steel hand and can also be read directly from the movement through the sapphire caseback.
The example presented here, Ref. 5907G, is a rare white gold variant, preserved in outstanding condition and fitted with its original white gold buckle. The movement has been fully serviced by Nicky Sir, runs accurately, and is covered by a one-year service warranty from our workshop.
