When you see the case and bracelet of this watch, do you feel a sense of familiarity, somewhat resembling AP's Royal Oak and also a bit like PP's Nautilus? That's right, because they all come from the same designer - Gérald Genta, the master of watch design. Mr. Genta designed this Ingenieur for IWC. Just as its name "Engineer" implies, it exudes a sense of practical beauty, but with a touch of roundness compared to the previous two. Let's go back to the 1950s when quartz watches had not yet been born. Technology was booming, and in response to the impact of electromagnetic radiation on mechanical watches, the IWC Ingenieur was born. The first generation Ingenieur debuted in 1955 with a diameter of 36.5mm and a bidirectional automatic winding system. The second generation Ingenieur ref. 1832 was introduced in the mid-1970s, designed by Gérald Genta. Due to its oversized 40mm diameter, it was called the Jumbo SL, but the large size was not widely accepted in terms of aesthetics at that time. Therefore, the later introduced ref. 3521 model retained excellent antimagnetic properties and the design essence of Genta while adjusting the size to 34mm, which better suited the aesthetic preferences of modern people. It is worth mentioning that ref. 3521 is also the only Ingenieur model certified as a chronometer by COSC.
The Ref. 3521 that we are sharing today is a very rare complete set in the market. The owner purchased it in Germany in 1994 and had a comprehensive service at IWC in Germany in 2009. With a black dial, gold lettering, full links bracelet, and in its original unpolished condition, it comes with the guarantee card, instruction manual, and watch box. For seasoned IWC collectors, it is definitely a rare piece to add to their collection.
